Green brown back, grey head, white eye stripe, yellow throat and belly. The ♀ is paler in colour. While breeding the head markings differ per region for the ♂, ranging from yellow to light grey or completely black but always with a yellow or white throat. Preference for lowland, near water, also often found near livestock. ⇔ l. 15-16 cm A migratory bird breeding in Europe and wintering in Spain and Africa. LA: The tail is shorter than other wagtails. ≈ The MOTACILLA CINEREA (Grey wagtail) has a grey back and head and lives in mountainous areas. ≈ The MOTACILLA CITREOLA (Citrine wagtail) has a complete yellow head with a black collar and a grey back.
