Pale brown marked with a lighter coloured belly and striped throat. Crown is striped, a flat head and large eyes which is typical of flycatchers. Both genders are similar and the young are more yellowish brown. Sits motionless on a lookout point until an insect passes and caught in flight, it often returns to the same lookout point. Can be found in parks, fields, even cemeteries. It makes its nest often in ivy-covered trees. ⇔ l. 14-15 cm This migratory bird spends its winter in Africa and breeds in Europe where it arrives towards the end of May. LA: ≈ The FICEDULA HYPOLEUCA (Pied flycatcher) is very similar outside breeding season but has no striped crown.
