Completely black with a curved yellow beak and red legs. Fingered wingtips and a round tail. Young have a dark beak. Often in flocks soaring over mountain peaks gaining great heights with acrobatics display. Nests are found from 2000 to 3000 m. ⇔ l. 36-40 cm syn. Yellow-billed Chough Found exclusively in the high mountains of southern Europe above the timberline. If food becomes scarce they visit residential areas. LA: ≈ The CORVUS MONEDULA (Western jackdaw) has a grey head, beak and legs. ≈ The PYRRHOCORAX PYRRHOCORAX (Red-billed chough) has a red beak. ≈ The STURNUS UNICOLOR (Spotless starling) has similar colours but is smaller and lives in the Mediterranean area.
