A small polychrome forest bird. The back is olive green, orange-brown neck, grey belly and black wings with white stripes and markings. A prominent black white striped face with a bright crown, the ♂ is more orange and the ♀ yellow. The young have a green head with a faint eyebrow. Prefers mixed forest. ⇔ l. 9-10 cm Partly resident bird. Mostly found high in trees where the colours are less noticeable. LA: ≈ The REGULUS REGULUS (Goldcrest) is less brightly coloured, has a lighter eye edge instead of stripes and sings with more variety.
