Stubby green brown bird with yellow stripes. Small beak, thick head and white wing stripes. The ♂ has a yellow forehead and rump, the ♀ is less brightly coloured. Young are more brownish. Active bird, the ♂ calls often with clear tones. Prefers pine woods. ⇔ l. 11-12 cm Partly migratory wintering in south Europe. LA: ≈ The young are easily confused with the CARDUELIS SPINUS (Siskin). ≈ The CARDUELIS CHLORIS (Greenfinch) and CARDUELIS CITRINELLA (Citril) Finch are more even in colour on back and breast.
