A small songbird with a dark head and black eye. The ♂ with a light grey body and black head and grey beak. After breeding the grey becomes paler, looking brownish. The ♂ has a grey-brown body with rust red head and grey collar. Lower body is light grey. A loud and distinctive melodic song. ⇔ l. 12-14 cm A migratory bird breeding in Europe and wintering close to the Mediterranean. LA: ≈ The PARIDAE (Tits) with a black head have white cheeks and are more beige or brownish.
