Dark brown wader with a long beak and orange legs. The belly is lighter and in summer speckled, in winter the breast is greyish. The wing under the surface and rear edge are white, which can be seen in flight. Searches for bugs on rocky and sandy shores of rivers and swamps. When threatened there is a warning call first. ⇔ l. 28-29 cm A migratory bird from north to south Europe. LA: ≈ The TRINGA GLAREOLA (Wood sandpiper) and PHILOMACHUS PUGNAX (Ruff) have green legs. ≈ The ARENARIA INTERPRES (Ruddy turnstone) has shorter legs and beak, the beak is black.
