White wings with black markings, on the front wings there are 2 yellow stripes with one close to the head. The body is yellow with black markings. The rear wings have no yellow stripes. The under surface is similar. Due to the prominent colours, they are ignored by birds. If touched or captured they freeze appearing to be dead. ⇔ wsp. 35-40 mm The butterfly and caterpillar are similar in colours which is unusual. LA: ≈ The EURRHYPARA HORTULATA (Small magpie) is smaller with no yellow stripes on the front wing.
