Aah-Yeah
A large butterfly with ochre to brown wings. On all 4 wings, there is a blue-black marking enclosing a white T shape with a dark stripe which is wider at the rear. The under surface is brown marked with a white band, the front wings have a black outline to the white T shape, the rear wings do not. The antennae of the ♂ are clearly feather-shaped, the ♀ are thread-like. The sturdy body is hairy. Mostly sitting flat, however, it is able to close its wings to reveal its under surface. The ♀ is considerably larger than the ♂ and a little lighter in colour. Prefers birch wood. The caterpillar changes a lot during its stages, starting with long red white thorns which disappear in the final stage. ⇔ wsp. 55-85 mm
