Large bright blue head with a sturdy beak, belly and wings are blue. The tail has a black topside and is blue-white at the end. Young are lighter coloured. Often on high lookout points to spot prey below. Both parents feed the young. ⇔ l. 29-32 cm Migrates to southern Africa for winter, breeds in Europe.
