Upper surface wings are orange with thick brown lines and markings, the pattern can vary making it look darker or lighter in colour. Under surface front wing orange with black lines and light yellow edge, rear wing light yellow with pearl-like markings and orange dots. ⇔ wsp. 25-38 mm LA: ≈ The MELITAEA DEIONE (Provençal Fritillary) has no brown markings. ≈ The MELITAEA CINXIA (Glanville Fritillary) has black markings on the rear edge.
