Front wing brown marked, colour and markings vary a lot from red to grey-brown or yellowish. The rear wing is bright yellow-orange with a black band. Active at night. The caterpillar can be light brown as well as green with a thin lighter back stripe accompanied with a row of markings. ⇔ wsp. 45-55 mm
