Brown marked front wings and body, rear wings are pink and yellow with a large black-edged blue eye marking. Comb-shaped antennae. Active at night, preferring to be in hollow trees. Resting during the day, in a tree with the rear wings covered by the front wings. When disturbed it moves and the eyes make it appear to be a larger animal. ⇔ wsp. 70-80 mm
