Large wide black beetle, high on its legs, wide hooked front legs and a wide flat head. Wings develop below average and are not suitable to fly. They feed on droppings of, preferably elephants, rhinos and buffalos as on other vegetarians. ♀ makes balls of droppings larger than its own size, then rolls this to the nursery for 1 egg. ⇔ l. 22-47 mm Only found in South Africa, rare.
