A brown back and head, lighter belly and breast, faint eyebrow with a dark eye line up to the long pointed beak and a wide tail. Difficult to spot but easy to hear, singing in the reeds with a slightly elevated head. ⇔ l. 18-20 cm Largest warbler, a migratory bird wintering in Africa and breeding in Europe and Asia. LA: ≈ The ACROCEPHALUS SCIRPACEUS (Reed warbler) is much smaller.
