Black white moth. The front wings can be creamy white to pink with triangular black spots. The white or pink rear wings have fewer spots, the pattern and colouration can vary considerably per butterfly. The back of the body is reddish with black spots, the belly side is black with white. The fur collar is black with 2 white stripes and a white to an orange front edge. The probes of ♂ are spring-shaped, those of ♀ wire-shaped. The caterpillar is brownish with warts and hair, the older the caterpillar the stiffer the hair. ⇔ wsp. 35-43 mm The pupa winters, but the butterfly does not fly until the end of the summer. Southern Europe, North Africa. LA: ≈ In the EUPLAGIA QUADRIPUNCTARIA (Jersey tiger) the black is striped on the top and the underside of the wings is red.
