Blue-grey dove with an orange-pink breast marking and a shiny green marking on the sides of the neck. On the wings and along the tail a black band. Black eyes and a pink white based beak. Launches with some wing noise. Breeds in hollow deciduous trees year round, with up to four broods a year, both sexes attend to the chicks. ⇔ l. 28-32 cm Partly migratory. In the south and west Europe, it stays in winter. LA: ≈ The COLUMBA PALUMBUS (Wood pigeon) is sturdier with a white neck marking. ≈ The COLUMBA LIVIA (Rock dove) is lighter grey with a white rump.
