Slender bird, yellow-brown markings with a lighter eyebrow stripe and dark pattern around the eyes like glasses. A striking crest that cannot be lowered. In-flight broad wings with a short tail. Sings in bushes or on the ground. Prefers warm open spots with low vegetation. Sometimes near urban areas in wasteland or cereal fields. ⇔ l. 16-17 cm LA: ≈ The LULLULA ARBOREA (Woodlark) and the ALAUDA ARVENSIS (Skylark) have a smaller crest that can be laid flat.
