Contrasty marked lark with a light eyebrow line and ochre cheeks, white belly and underwing surface. The small crest can be lowered. The back and wing upper surfaces are rust/dark brown marked and the brown tail has white corners. Always hidden, but with a very tuneful fluent song by the ♂, singing sometimes while flying above the nest or while resting. The singing is considered by some to be better than the Nightingale. It searches for seeds and small bugs on the ground. ⇔ l.14-15 cm A migratory bird. LA: The ALAUDIDAE (Larks) have a similar build and markings and are known for their beautiful song. ≈ The ALAUDA ARVENSIS (Skylark) has a less pronounced eye line and in profile, with more white on the side of the long tail. ≈ The GALERIDA CRISTATA (Crested Lark) is not able to flatten its crest.
