A grey-headed woodpecker, green back and wings and a yellow rump. The light yellow belly is unmarked and has a grey breast. Mostly looks for ants and larvae of other insects. In autumn, fruits and seeds both on the ground and in the tree. Drums, but its call is more often heard. ⇔ l. 25-26 cm syn. Grey-faced woodpecker A resident bird from eastern Europe and Asia. LA: ≈ Hard to separate from the PICUS VIRIDIS (Green woodpecker) which has a reddish head with a black eye mask and light yellow cheeks and a somewhat longer neck.
