Small grey brown tit with a black head and chin with white cheeks. Pale white breast and beige belly, whitish wing marking. Nest burrows are carved out of wood by both sexes, the ♀ will coat it. Nasal singing without much variation. ⇔ l. 11-12 cm syn. PARUS MONTANUS LA: ≈ The POECILE PALUSTRIS (Marsh tit) is similar, shinier and missing the white wing markings. The singing, however, is much more varied. ≈ The PERIPARUS ATER (Coal tit) has brighter colours and a wider black chin with a white neck marking.
