Upper surface yellow-orange with black markings, black lines and a thin white rear edge. A very distinctive pattern. The undersurface of the front wing is red-orange with black markings. The under surface rear wing is dark with a bluish purple glow and dark red, yellow and pearl-coloured markings.

Found on flower-rich meadows, hills, sandy and heath areas.

LA:
≈ The upper surface is very similar for several of this genus like the BOLORIA SELENE (Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary) and BOLORIA EUPHROSYNE (Pearl-bordered fritillary) with only marginal differences. 
≈ The BOLORIA AQUILONARIS (Cranberry Fritillary) has a similar under surface but is more red-brown instead of blue-purple.
