Slender shiny black butterfly with 5 markings on the front wing, sometimes connected. The rear wing is red with a black edge on both sides. Body legs and antennae are black.

Day-active and it prefers moist grassy patches with Bird's-foot Trefoil.

LA:
≈ The ZYGAENA FILIPENDULAE (Six-spot burnet) has 6 markings on each front wing. 
≈ And with the ZYGAENA LOTI (Slender Scotch burnet) the markings touch each other. 
≈ The TYRIA JACOBAEAE  (Cinnabar moth) has a red stripe and only 2 dots. 
Other Burnet moths have lookalikes that are difficult to distinguish without a microscope, except by their location.
