The upper surface is black brown with bands of white, orange and green-blue along the edge. The ♀ white band is wider and brighter than for the ♂. The under surface is red-orange marked with white bands and along the edge a black and blue band. Mostly seen in treetops but descends to drink from pools. ⇔ wsp. 66-77 mm LA: ≈ The LIMENITIS CAMILLA (White admiral) lacks the orange markings at the top. ≈ The LIMENITIS REDUCTA (Southern White Admiral) has a blue tinge and small blue markings at the top. ≈ The summer ARASCHNIA LEVANA (Map) lacks the blue rear edge and has a more veined under surface.
