Small white swan with a yellow beak base and a black beak tip, a short straight tail. Mainly vegetarian that likes to graze on fields in small groups. In winter the groups become larger. ⇔ l. 115-130 cm A migratory bird breeding north and wintering in central Europe. LA: ≈ The CYGNUS CYGNUS (Whooper swan) is larger with a longer neck and the yellow beak base is larger and more angular shaped. ≈ Is sometimes considered to be a subspecies of the CYGNUS COLUMBIANUS (Tundra swan) which has less yellow on its beak See photo LA.
