Grey-brown bird with small yellow marking on the rump and a white cheek stripe. ♂ has a very long tail and its wings make noise in flight to attract the females. Prefers Prothea nectar. Has sharp claws to be able to withstand the strong cape winds while feeding of flowers. ⇔ l. ♂ 34-44 cm with tail, ♀ 25-29 cm
