Brown-grey bat with short hairs on its body, the belly is light grey coloured. The nose, ears and wing skin are dark brown and bald.

Hunts in forest-rich habitats flying low looking for beetles and other small bugs.

⇔ hbl. 6-9 cm, tl. 4-5 cm span 35-45 cm

In summer a nesting spot is selected by the females, the ♂ do live alone and find cavities to rest. In winter a different long-term resting spot is selected where they stay all season.

≈ The NYCTALUS NOCTULA (Noctule) is active earlier and flies with sudden changes of direction as well as more calls.
≈ The RHINOLOPHUS HIPPOSIDEROS (Lesser horseshoe) bat does have the nostril lumps.
