Large mouse with a long hairy tail, large eyes and round ears. Brown to silver-grey coloured with a lighter belly. A black eye edge making the eyes look larger. 

Active from twilight in shrubs looking for seeds and bugs, making food stashes. Also, nests in barns and the roof insulation and lofts of rural houses and can be very destructive!

Lives in South and East Europe. Like other dormice, it sleeps well and is active at night. Hibernates for 7 months.

LA:
≈ Can be mistaken for a SCIURUS VULGARIS (Squirrel) which has longer and stronger legs.
