Red-brown dog-like animal, with a white or light grey throat, chest and belly. The legs and ears are dark brown and the thick tail is red-brown often with a white or sometimes black tip. The nose looks pointed due to the sharp line between the red and white cheek markings. Active at dusk and dawn and sometimes during the daytime. Lives in pairs or families with multiple ♀ in a burrow they dig themselves. Sometimes they use an abandoned badger burrow. It is a true omnivore eating mammals, birds, seeds and carrion.
