Squirrel-like with very small ears, the back is grey-brown with vague yellow markings. The belly is yellowish and a white throat and chin. Lives in colonies with every individual its own burrow. It is day-active and often on its rear legs standing watch. Eating seeds and plants but also insects, it gathers stocks for winter. ⇔ hbl. 17-23 cm, tl. 4-8 cm Hibernates. LA: ≈ The SCIURUS VULGARIS (Squirrel) has a thicker tail and larger ears.
