A small songbird, ♂ with a black head and white neck markings with an orange breast. The ♀ has a brown head and pale orange breast. Both sexes have a brown marked back and wings with white shoulders visible when sitting. Often on high lookout points singing and/or looking for prey. ⇔ l. 12-13 cm This migratory bird is wintering in coastal areas. LA: ≈ The OENANTHE OENANTHE (Wheatear) is greyish with the orange limited to the throat. ≈ The SAXICOLA RUBETRA (Whinchat) has a brown head with a white eyebrow.
