A small frog with a smooth light green back and a grainy white belly, the two colours separated by a dark line on the flanks. 
The green is variable: bright in sunlight and dark grey in the shade. Brown drums (little dots behind the eye). At the toe ends there are round shaped sucking mechanisms and some small webbing on the rear toes. The ♂ has a yellow-brown vocal sac below its throat, the throat of the ♀ is more light grey coloured.

Mostly in bushes near water but can be high in trees as well. Night animal, during the day it sits still on a branch or leaf. Croaking is heard near or under water, not in trees.

LA: 
≈ Around the Mediterranean, the HYLA MERIDIONALIS (Mediterranean tree frog) it likes a warmer climate. It has a shorter brown side stripe, from the nose to the front leg. With young frogs, this line is sometimes somewhat longer, which easily causes confusion. There are also blue specimen. See photo LA.
