Yellow grey to dark-grey cat with a wide square head, faint dark lines on the flanks. The tail is ringed with a black tip. The fur is soft and thick. Lives solitary or in pairs in inaccessible areas. Hunts at dawn and night for small animals occasionally eat plants but rarely carrion. ⇔ hbl. 50-70, tl. 18-30 cm There are 4 subspecies; European, Asian, African and the domesticated cat. The last is found worldwide. There has been much interbreeding between the subspecies so separation is not always clear. LA: ≈ The FELIS SILVESTRIS CATUS (Domesticated cat) is smaller, comparatively short body and short legs.
