Long thin neck, shiny black feathers, on the wings silver grey, tail black grey striped, yellow legs. ♀ grey neck and yellow throat, ♂ neck and throat black shiny. Dives to hunt, feathers have no crease as opposed to other water birds, hence they have to dry after divings giving the characteristic posture (like the cormorants). Monogamous and reusing the same nest. ⇔ l. 75-95 cm syn. Snakebird, Water Turkey
