Brown with a striking head that is hammer-shaped, with a purple shine on the back. Feet are partly webbed. Stirs in shallow water with its legs to find small water creatures and toads. Makes a huge nest, which can become up to 1.5 meters and ornamented with bright coloured objects, mostly found in trees but can be on the surface as well. ⇔ l. 54-56 cm syn.
