A bumblebee with a black head and relatively long nose. The breast is yellow-black-yellow banded and the rear is yellow-black-white. Found near flower fields and has the longest tongue of the bumblebees enabling him to access more flowers. ⇔ l. 13-20 mm Bumblebee colonies have a queen. First to hatch are the ♀ taking care of the nest, in summer ♂ and new queens follow that perform a ritual mating flight. The garden bumblebee often produces two generations a year. The fertilised queen lives through the winter, all others perish in autumn. LA: ≈ The BOMBUS TERRESTRIS (Buff-tailed bumblebee) appears less yellowish since there is no yellow on its breast, the yellow is only at the tail end. ≈ The hoverfly VOLUCELLA BOMBYLANS (Bumblebee Giant) does its best to look like a bumblebee with its thick hair. But by the eyes and his flight behaviour, you can clearly see that it is a hoverfly.
