A round blue-black beetle with a shiny ribbed back shield, small head with clearly feathered antennae and prickly legs. In some light, it looks blue. Often found on forest trails living off dung. GETRUPES STERCOROSUS, ANOPLOTRUPES STERCOROSUS LA: ≈ The GEOTRUPES VERNALIS has a much smoother rear shield. ≈ The TIMARCHA TENEBRICOSA (Bloody-nosed beetle) is much thinner, more round and with longer legs. ≈ The COPRIS HISPANUS has a large nose thorn.
