Red black froghopper. The small head and neck shield and legs are black. The shield is black with red markings, the rear marking resembling a W. Often seen in open areas in forests. The eggs are laid on plants in foam, larvae develop on roots of plants. As a defence mechanism, the foam is produced as cover. ⇔ l. 8-11 mm LA: Other black and red beetles look similar. ≈ The COCCINELLIDAE (Ladybugs) are rounder. ≈ The TRICHODES APIARIUS has a hairy shield ≈ And the NICROPHORUS VESPILLO has different antennae.
