Grey to steel blue blowfly with red eyes and orange-red cheeks. The back has shiny markings and is lightly haired. This is the fly mostly heard inside the house and lays its eggs in rotten meat and carrion. ⇔ l. 8-11 mm Is used in forensic science to determine the time of death, as is the Common greenbottle. LA: ≈ The CALLIPHORA VOMITORIA (bluebottle fly or bottle bee) is very similar but has no red cheeks. See photo LA.
