Metallic green to golden-red shiny beetle. The shield is flattened with some white cross stripes of light coloured hairs. The head is darker in colour and the under surface is red-brown. The colour is variable. Flies with closed shield, unlike most beetles. Mainly found at forest edges and bushes on flowers on which it feeds. When cold it stops moving. ⇔ l. 15-20 mm syn. Green rose chafer, Goldsmith' beetle
