Flat grey brown thick haired beetle with white dots on the ribbed shield. The hairs seem to grow from below the shield. Likes to feed on roses and therefore considered a pest. Larvae eat the roots and adults the flowers. ⇔ l. 10-15 mm syn. Flower chafer LA: ≈ The OXYTHYREA FUNESTA (White-spotted rose beetle) has less hair and more white markings. ≈ The AMPHIMALLON SOLSTITIALE (Summer chafer) is larger with some hairs on its shield.
