Large wide black hoverfly with a white edge at the front of the rear body. The wings are yellowish with a black marking halfway along. Its size makes it look like a bumblebee. Larvae develop in wasp nests where they have a constant temperature and humidity, feeding on the wasps’ left-overs. As adults, they feed on nectar and tree sap. ⇔ l. 13-18 mm
