Small bird. The very long tail consists of 4 feathers only present at the ♂ while breeding as is the golden breast, black head and back. Outside breeding season he looks like the ♀; olive brown marked with even light brown face and a bright red beak. ⇔ l. 11-12 cm syn. Queen Whydah The ♀ lays the eggs in the nest of another bird, this is brood parasitism, the GRANATINA GRANATINA (Violet-eared Waxbills) is the host bird. See the last photo.
