Bright red specimen.

Gailhampshire
Small round black and red beetle. The neck shield is black with white edges and 2 white markings on top, often joined. The face is black with white markings and the legs always black. This combination is distinctive since variations in back shield marking are enormous. For example, orange shield with 2 black dots or black shield with 6 red dots can be found. And to complicate matters, before developing to their final stage, they are still yellow for a short time. ⇔ l. 3-6 mm syn. COCCINELLA BIPUNCTATA, Two-spotted lady beetle LA: ≈ Its black legs separate it from the HARMONIA AXYRIDIS (Harlequin ladybird). ≈ Also very similar is the EXOCHOMUS QUADRIPUSTULATUS (Pine ladybird) which is more rounded and has a small rim on the shield and never has a white marked head See photo LA.
