Drakes (♂) have a distinctive green head, yellow beak and brown breast. ♀ has more orange/yellow beak and brownish colour. Both genders have a purple/blue wing discolouration (speculum feathers) edged with white. Orange legs with webbed feet. Young first look like females, male colours show later. Present in practically all wetland areas. Couples established in preceding winter. ⇔ l. ♂ 55-57 cm, ♀ 47-49 cm syn. Wild duck LA: ≈ Many ♀ ducks are very similar but the eye line with the white speculum are specific.
