Orange brown hairy beetle, with white hair on the shield brown, the hairs looking translucent. The legs are brown. Brown antennae widen at the end. The rear section below the shield is more greyish brown. On hot summer (June) evenings, one can witness swarms of ♂ looking for ♀. The ♀ will be sitting on branches or on the ground. Larvae eat plant roots and take a few years to develop, adults eat tree leaves. ⇔ l. 14-18 mm syn. European June beetle LA: ≈ The MELOLONTHA MELOLONTHA (Cockchafer) is larger and with a pointed tail.
