Large dragonfly with green breast and brown wings. The ♂ has blue rear body with a black vertical stripe, greenish eyes with a blue shine. The ♀ blueish green with a brown stripe, green eyes with a brown glow. Just hatched dragonflies can show some yellow towards the rear. Able flyer, hunting far from its water location, the ♂ defends its territory against other hawkers. ⇔ l. 73-82 mm syn. Blue Emperor This is the largest hawker. LA: ≈ The AESHNA CYANEA (Southern hawker) lacks the dark vertical stripe on the rear.
