Large shiny green gold coloured beetle, with a ribbed back shield. The red-brown legs, mouth and antennae up to the 4th segment are distinctive. Active at daytime, climbs in plants and trees, eats mushroom, carrion and the larvae of other beetles. At night it rests under a rock. ⇔ l. 17-30 mm LA: ≈ The CARABUS AURONITENS has only the first antennae segment brown red with the rest black. See photo LA.
