Large green fly with extremely large translucent wings, thin blue-green body with black markings and large gold coloured eyes. The wings extend beyond the length of the body. Larvae feed on aphids, adults eat honeydew of the aphid. Sometimes the ♀ eats aphids to support the eggs. Seen in large groups in forests and gardens. ⇔ l. 10-17 mm syn. CHRYSOPA PALLENS, Common green lacewing LA: There are lots of subspecies all similar in appearance and behaviour, like the family of HEMEROBIIDAE (Brown lacewings) that are obviously brown.
