A sturdy damselfly with red eyes and copper coloured back. The ♂ has red eyes and blue side markings, no shoulder lines and a black rear section with a blue band top and bottom. The eyes of the ♀ are more orange-brown coloured and the sidebands are yellow-greenish with dark shoulders with lines (can be very short). The rear is also very dark with thin blue lines. Mainly on banks and prefers large leaves. ⇔ l. 30-36 mm LA: ≈ The ERYTHROMMA VIRIDULUM (Small red-eyed damselfly) very similar but smaller. The ♂ is more copper coloured on the long rear body.
